Irrelevant woke polling as L.A. and the world turns.
Common sense says ICE arrests, wildfires, Newsom's and Bass's failures, and bombing nukes in Iran are a lot more important than public opinion on Chinese language ballots right now.
A poll made public today by the Los Angeles Times gives sad insight into just how woke, irrelevant and manufactured their idea of current pressing public policy issues are which deserve more research and light. There are many other issues that rapidly come to mind in Los Angeles and California that are more ripe today for revealing public opinion than people’s feelings about Chinese and other language ballots in California. Examples are continuing public opinion on Newsom’s and Bass’ follow-up on the wildfires, their popularity trends; support or opposition for Israel in its’ war with Iran would be very revealing and timely given the obviously large Jewish and Persian populations in Los Angeles; support or opposition to ICE work removing criminal aliens from the area, and whether or not the ICE activities might now be perceived by the public as actually helping to alleviate street crime in areas like MacArthur Park, near Langer’s Deli, something the Times has done a lot of past reporting on. (A poll showing that people, including Latinos, feel more or less safer now in MacArthur Park with more police presence including ICE might confirm a truth that would be inconvenient to the Times’ usual narrative).
If the Times is going to invest in public opinion polling, the polling should not only strive to be accurate, but it should also be regarding public opinion on issues that, as my friend Jon Fleischman would say, really matters. Opinions about Asian language ballots, which already are mandated by law, by common sense, is pretty low on the radar screen of priorities right now for most everybody.
